Hellen Baca 2007 Chairperson

This is Hellen's 6th year volunteering for the committee. She holds a Bachelor degree in
Child Development and a Master degree in School Administration. Hellen is a junior high
school teacher for the Ontario-Montclair School District and has been teaching for the
past 15 years. She is also a member of the Chino USD GATE-MAGNET committee.
She is a proud mother of two boys (both GATE students), 10 and 12. Hellen is always on
the go. When she is not teaching, you can find her at the soccer field being Team Mom,
volunteering at her children's school, or participating as a member of the Board of
Directors for the Chino Community Center Corporation.
Dolly is the business and community relations director for the El Monte-Rosemead Adult
School. She served as chairperson for the 2006 Expanding Horizons Womens'
Conference. Her passion in life has been to help improve life for women.
Dolly has been active in the San Gabriel Valley for many years serving on various
committees and boards of directors. Dolly is politically active, which helps her
spearhead many women’s and children’s issues in the community.

Rita, a practicing attorney, is passionately interested in promoting women in all
areas. Rita is a charter member of the Expanding Horizons Women’s Conference
committee and she was 2006's keynote speaker. This year, Rita will be a speaker
presenting various ways women (and men) can plan for future estate issues.
Elizabeth is the director of resident services at Royal Oaks Manor, a continuous
care retirement community in Bradbury.
Elizabeth has been the Supervisor of Orthopedics, Front Office Supervisor,
Manager of Subrogation and Manager of Medicare Customer Services for a
large health maintenance organization for the past 29 years.
Elizabeth resides in Duarte with her husband of 33 years, their son Vincent, a
sophomore at the University of La Verne and their daughter Emily Montanez and
her wonderful son-in-law, Abel.
Norma has more than 25 years of professional development experience. After a few years of modeling and fashion
commentary, Norma obtained her teaching credential. She has taught at Cerritos, Carson and Beverly Hills John Robert
Powers Finishing and Modeling School locations and was Director of the Carson school before moving on with her teaching
career to Brooks College in Long Beach, Fashion Division. Norma’s teaching path includes Orange Coast College in Costa
Mesa, and Rancho Santiago College in Santa Ana.
She is a management analyst/business liaison for the City of Pasadena, career services division with the Foothill Workforce
Investment Board (FWIB). Norma manages the Rapid Response Program and provides employment and training services
to a consortium of cities in the San Gabriel Valley region. Norma’s private consulting business “WOW: Women on
Winning” offers an annual seminar and bi-yearly workshops. The seminar is designed to help women identify methods of
application to survive crises of various magnitudes. Lastly, Norma is also a workshop facilitator for the Expanding Horizons
Women’s Conference.

Since retiring from Lawry's Foods, Inc. after 25 years, Liz spends much of her free
time doing community work as a volunteer. She created and implemented a
dress-for-success program for Phoenix House, worked with fund raising projects
for MASA (Mothers Against Sexual Abuse), helped and supported Foothill Unity
Center's Rainbow's End Thrift Shop. Currently, Liz enjoys her newest project as a
tutor for the Literacy Program at the Monrovia Public Library.
Lillian recently retired after 28 years in federal law enforcement, where she specialized in
the investigation of transnational financial crimes. Lillian served 22 years as a sworn law
enforcement officer with the departments of the Treasury and Homeland Security, and six
years as a civilian with the Department of Justice.
Kati is currently a job developer at Monrovia Adult School. Prior to
joining the Adult School in 2004, she worked for 20 years in the employment
staffing industry with Thomas Staffing. Kati has been a resident of Monrovia for 20 years.
Connie is a native Californian who has worked nearly 40 years on behalf of
disadvantaged children and their families. She has advocated in such notable non-profits
as United Way of Greater Los Angeles, Catholic Charities in Los Angeles, San
Bernardino, and Riverside Counties.
Connie is presently the Program Director of Child Care Information Services in
Pasadena – a community social service agency providing services to CalWORKs and
moderate-to-low income families. In her role as program director, she is responsible for
numerous programs, childcare provider direct services, parent services, and resource
development.
Paula is the director of communications at Citrus College. She manages all areas of
the college's media, marketing, community relations and public relations functions.
Prior to joining Citrus College, Paula was the marketing director of the San Gabriel
Valley Newspaper Group. Her career includes a variety of marketing, marketing
research and promotions positions in print and broadcast media.
Paula received a Bachelor degree in psychology and communications from Pitzer
College and a Master degree in telecommunication (radio and television) from
Michigan State University. She resides with her husband and son in Phillips Ranch.



Sue has been member of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees
since1999. She is a longtime member and past president of the Claremont Unified School
District Board of Directors and she has been a board member of the Citrus College
Foundation, serving as the chair of the marketing committee. Through the years, Sue has
been involved extensively with community groups. She has served on the boards of
directors of The Claremont Forum and the Claremont Chamber of Commerce. She is
past president of the Baldy View Regional Occupation Program Commission of which she
was a member for eight years and past vice chair of the steering committee of the
Claremont Youth Partnership. She helped found Claremont Meals-on-Wheels and is a
past director of the League of Women Voters of Claremont. She is the past co-chair of
the Claremont Child Care Task Force and was a Spanish Trails Girl Scout leader for six
years. Ms. Keith is past president and founding board member of the Public Relations
Association of Southern California.

As Public Affairs Manager for the Southern California Gas Company, Helen Romero
Shaw is responsible for the management of Public Affairs functions for ten cities in
the west San Gabriel Valley as well as several communities in the City of Los
Angeles. These include East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, and Northeast Los
Angeles. At the Gas Company, Helen previously held the positions of District
Manager, Community Involvement Manager, Consumer Affairs Administrator, Local
Manager, and Consumer Affairs Project Assistant.
Helen is a graduate of California State University, Northridge and received a
Certificate in Management Effectiveness from the USC School of Business.
Helen is past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Workforce
Investment Board where she serves as LA County Supervisor Gloria Molina’s
appointee. She is a Board Member the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership
and Board Member of the San Gabriel Valley Public Affairs Network.
Helen and The Gas Company are committed supporters of the local community
groups in the San Gabriel Valley. She is President of the Arcadia Chamber and
serves on the Alhambra and Rosemead Chamber board of directors. Helen is a long
time supporter of Senator Bob Margett and has been pleased to serve for several
years on the Women’s Committee that plans the annual conference. The Gas
Company is a continuing sponsor of the event.
